As I See It - Pete Stirpe’s Retirement and St. Anthony

Last week, I sat down with Pete Stirpe to talk about his intention to finally retire from a career (OK, several of them) that has been filled with public service.
He’s been Wayne County’s personnel director since 1989.
I’ve known Pete for 23 years, which oddly, I have just realized is half my life. I can still remember the first time that I talked to him - as a 23-year-old newspaper reporter who thought she knew everything.
In retrospect, I am recalling my daughter Lorrayne, who at 2, told me she knew everything and was screaming indignant after I pointed out that she had just tried to pet the cat through the sliding glass door and banged her head.

As He See It - Please Attend the Festival of Trees at the Wayne County Nursing Home

Image 1556 A person walking into the Wayne County Nursing Home might not notice the Giving Tree near the entrance or the tree filled with decorations made by veterans. They certainly won’t see the colorful tree decorated by the kids in the Cub Scouts on the second floor.
The reason a person might not see these things is because of having to walk through the doors and see the 30-plus trees in the halls of the nursing home.
They are part of the annual Festival of Trees.
