Wednesday, May 28 2008
To the Editor and smokers across New York State: It’s time to set a quit-smoking date. How about June 3? That’s the date the cost of cigarettes goes up. You’ll be paying an extra $1.25. You can gear yourself up for this date ahead of time. Ask yourself four questions: Do I really want to quit smoking? Am I ready to make some changes in my daily routine? Am I ready to put up with some temporary discomfort? Am I ready to make a healthy choice and stop smoking? Think of all the resources at your disposal to help you through this important and life-saving step. One resource offers help—for free. It’s the New York State Smokers’ Quit Line, offering a starter kit of nicotine patches, gum or lozenges for eligible New York State smokers. Trained Quitline specialists offer help with quit plans. You’ll get information about local stop smoking programs and informational taped messages. Call the Quitline at 866-NY-QUITS. Log on to www.nysmokefree.com. You are on your way!
