Sodus is Happening
To the Editor:

Who says nothing ever happens in Sodus? The week end of May 18 saw thousands, yes thousands, of people in Sodus. On May 18, the Williamson Flying Club had over 1,600 people come for breakfast at the Sodus Williamson Airport. Many of those people stopped to visit “Sampling Sodus” in the next hanger. Sixteen Sodus Chamber of Commerce members took advantage of the crowds to show their “stuff,” everything from cars, boats and lawn mowers to Tupperware and, of course, Heluva Good Cheese. The Sodus chamber appreciates the flying club letting us share their day. It’s a win win for them and for us.
The other big event was the Wallington Fire Department’s annual spring Bog and Grog. This was one of the largest spring crowds ever with over 2,000 attending (hard to put a number when kids under 12 are free). Many made it family day watching the 4-wheelers make it through the mud, eating salt potatoes and enjoying the sights. I even heard the traffic was backed up from Wallington to Route 104 stop light. This is an annual fundraiser for the fire department and they will be doing an even bigger one on Sept. 6 and 7 to celebrate 25 years of the bog and grog.  The money raised will certainly be put to good use for more fire equipment and training; those benefits spill over to the rest of the fire departments so the whole town benefits.
The Cracker Box Palace has many events scheduled for the summer not to mention the Sodus Firemen’s Carnival in June. In July The Olde Tyme Country Faire will be bringing in lots of people and remember that you can’t get to Sodus Point without going through Sodus. So who says there’s nothing to do in Sodus? Sodus does have lots of things but can always use more! The Sodus Chamber of Commerce would love your ideas or better yet, join the chamber and help us make it happen. The chamber is open to anyone who is interested in making Sodus an even better place to work, shop, visit and live. Give us a call at 398-8473 or visit our web site at www.sodusny.com for more information and our events calendar.
