ONTARIO – Following the success of the world premiere of Willy Wonka, T.C. Armstrong Middle School is now hard at work on the production of “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” This recently released version of “Beauty and the Beast” was designed specifically for middle school students. Middle school music teacher, Mike Allen, is producing the show. Allen has taken the program from its inception with “Pirates of Penzance” to the size and success that it is today. “I wanted to give the students a program that included musical productions they could be proud of,” Allen explains as the motivator behind the program. All students in the school, grades six through eight, are encouraged to perform or help out with the yearly musical in some way. This year’s production is sure to be a family favorite, with well-known numbers such as “Be Our Guest” and “Gaston”. The professional set and costumes for this production promise to be eye-catching. John Barthelmes and Patty Flowerday are back for their second year as Artistic Director and Choreographer, respectively. “I just loved working with these kids so much, I couldn’t wait to return,” explains Barthelmes. This year’s cast is headed up by Melanie McBride playing Belle (who you may remember as Ms. TeeVee in last year’s production of “Willy Wonka”) and Matt Dell’Olio playing the Beast (who performed on stage as Charlie Bucket last year).
