3 A.M. Crash at Sodus School
Wednesday, June 17 2009
Two drivers apparently racing each other collided on the grounds of Sodus Central School June 16. The remains of one of the cars is above. Below, the second car and damage to the district’s bus transportation facility.
SODUS - Witnesses said the debris at Sodus Central School that remained after two men allegedly racing behind the school crashed Tuesday resembled the wreckage from a mock DWI drill held there last year. Wayne County sheriff’s deputies are still investigating whether alcohol was involved, but the injuries, and the damage, were real this time. Shortly after 3 a.m., deputies responded to the school’s bus garage after a report of a crash. The Sodus Fire and Rescue responded as well and had to extricate John Harris Jr. from his vehicle because he was trapped. Harris was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester by Mercy Flight. The man in the other car, Marvin Gay, was taken to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital by Sodus Town Ambulance. Both men are from Sodus; their conditions were not known, but Harris reportedly suffered severe leg injuries. A woman in Harris’ car, witnesses said, was also hurt, but she fled the scene and was later tracked down by sheriff’s investigators. There were witnesses to the collision and they were being interviewed by police on Tuesday morning. The bus garage, which was struck in the crash, suffered some damage. The district’s outgoing computer connections, which affected the external email, were impacted in the accident, leaving the district with an interruption in service. District officials said Harris Jr. and Gay were former students at Sodus Central. No other information about the accident was available at press time.

I think that they should have the school closed off so that people are not allowed to drive around the sschool there could have been students at the school who could have been seriousley injured other tha the two drivers. I also think that that those two former students are diots and should not be allowed behind the wheel of a car they have proven that that are not responsible enough to handle it this time they have hurt themselves who knows who they will hurt next and i dont want to find out.

I agree with her they have proven that they can't handle the responsibility of driving. When your driving you have to be aware of your surrondings and whats going on around you. You dont have time to screw around, because doing so you can end up with a serious accident like so but next time it ca even worst for the drivers and innocent by standers. I alo thinkt at those two former students should really think about there actions. I hope that they have realized the severity of there actions and choose not to try that again for they will regret it even worst next time. I aslo think there should be something done with the entrence points of the school. There should be something for that reason i know that its will be even more of an hasle but think of the safty of the students
