he Alasa Academy is hosting a fundraiser camping weekend starting From Sept. 11 - 13.  On Saturday, there is also a chuck wagon dinner for an additional fee if interested.  This fundraiser is to help keep the academy running and to help with future expansion plans and projects. The Sodus Point United Methodist Church has welcomed a new pastor into the church with open arms and with a welcoming basket.  Pastor Bong Hee has been with the church for two weeks now.

Kenyon Speaks in Lyons

LYONS- As Chris Kenyon, writer, outdoor enthusiast and promoter for Wayne County Tourism, shared his favorite local hiking and nature gems, heads nodded in recognition and smiles of memories on the various Wayne County trails were seen to creep across the faces of the 22 people who gathered at Lyons Recreation Center on Aug. 6. Kenyon’s talk “Discovering the Wonders of Wayne County” was the first in a series of presentations made possible through a grant from Parks and Trails New York. Kenyon, local outdoor columnist (Williamson Sun and Sodus Record, Finger Lakes Times), shared his hiking journal reflections and encouraged his audience to try journaling.

Lincoln Mural Unveiled in Clyde

CLYDE -  Before they let the community see it, those responsible for the research behind the village’s new Lincoln mural wanted to share their story.
Preceding the unveiling of the mural, an informal presentation was held inside Galen’s Express Lane Market and Pharmacy while attendees enjoyed coffee in the cafe area.
At noon, everyone congregated outside and were joined by many other members of the community on a hot day to get their first look at the mural of Lincoln’s visit to Clyde.

Fire Kills Newark Father: Man accused of Setting Similar Fire Arrested

NEWARK - A Newark man was charged with second-degree arson after a pair of suspicious house fires, one of them fatal,  in the village Aug. 13 and 14.
Rickey Baker, 55 of 318 Church St., was arraigned before Village Justice Dan Barrett and sent to the Wayne County jail without bail in connection with the second fire, in which there were no injuries. He was charged after police say witnesses saw him set the fire that damaged the porch and siding of a three-family home at 113 Elm St. in Newark, around the block from the fatal Colton Avenue fire the day before.
