Ontario Historical Society Requests Donations for Annual Fall Barn Sale

ONTARIO- The Ontario Historical Society is in need of good saleable donations for it’s annual fall barn sale. They are looking for items such as jewelry, kitchen items, pots and pans, dishes and glassware, books (no encyclopedias or National Geographic magazines), toys, games, knick-knacks, small electrical kitchen appliances in working condition. Gardening equipment, flower pots and tools of all kinds.

Ontario, Walworth are Looking at Reducing the Number of Elementary Schools

ONTARIO – The Wayne Central School District, in partnership with the Towns of Ontario and Walworth, is exploring the feasibility of reducing their three current elementary buildings to a single enlarged school on the existing Ontario Primary site. Providing better educational opportunities to students, saving money for the taxpayers and a declining enrollment were cited as the main reasons for exploring this opportunity. At a recent board meeting of the Wayne Central School Board, the Ontario Town Board and the Walworth Town Board, Wayne Board President, Joyce Lyke stated that the plan would provide additional opportunities to students, such as an elementary foreign language program, while preserving a low tax rate.

Working on Multiple Fronts
A resident commented to me this morning that the parades and festivals are just fine, but the village should work to bring in businesses. That’s what we need. His words startled me because the village is, has been, and will continue to work to bring businesses and the jobs they create to Palmyra. The revolving loan fund, established through a Governor’s Office of Small Cities grant several years ago, enables us to offer micro-enterprise loans to qualified current and potential business owners in the village. You have probably seen the “We Are Investing in Palmyra’s Future” signboards in front of participating businesses after the loan is awarded.

Passport Clinic to be Held in Williamson

WILLIAMSON - A passport clinic will be held at the Williamson Town Hall on Aug. 26, 6 - 7:30 p.m. Anyone interested in obtaining their United States Passport is encouraged to attend.
The purpose of these sessions is to assist Wayne County residents in filling out the necessary paperwork to obtain their United States passports. Processing agents and blank applications will be on hand. Applications may be obtained prior to the session at the Williamson Town Clerk’s Office or downloaded off the Department of State web page.
