Two Rescued from Lake Ontario

SODUS POINT - Two Colorado residents were rescued from Lake Ontario
Aug. 24 after their catamaran overturned in 3 - 5 foot waves, throwing
them into the water.
The sheriff’s Marine Patrol said the incident occurred at 2:11 p.m.,
off the entrance to the Sodus Bay Channel. The incident was called in
to the 911 center.

Dalton Election Appeal successful

ROCHESTER – Rank and file Republican voters in Wayne County will decide
which candidate will appear on their ballot line line after all.
A state appellate court last week overturned state Supreme Court Judge
John Ark’s ruling that upheld the Wayne County Board of Elections’
decision to disqualify 67 signatures on David Dalton’s nominating
petitions. At the request of Wayne County Republican Chairman Daniel
Olsen and with advice from the state Board of Elections, local
elections officials disqualified the signatures, The witnesses who
circulated the petition on which they appeared stated they lived in the
Town of Wolcott when they actually lived in the part of the Village of
Wolcott that is located in the Town of Butler.

Home Destroyed in Fire

Sodus firefighters battled a fully engulfed blaze at a home at
Sprong’s Point in Sodus Aug. 24. Fire Chief Dan Littlefield said it
took two hours to bring the fire under control; the cause is being
investigated.

Baker Placed at Fire Scene

NEWARK – A Wolcott man delivering papers said he saw Rickey Baker
leaving a porch on Elm Street, carrying a container shortly before the
porch burst into flames Aug. 14.
Baker, 55 of 318 Church St., Newark, faces a second-degree arson charge
for allegedly starting that fire and is a “person of interest” in a
fire the day before within in sight of the Elm Street fire. That first
blaze, on Colton Avenue, killed a man, 42-year-old Vincent Bell.
Bell’s girlfriend and their two children were slightly injured, but
escaped the fire with Bell’s help. He did not make it out of the house
in time.

Farm Bureau to Ask for Border Patrol Inquiry

NORTH ROSE – Border patrol officers can’t break the law to enforce it, the Wayne County Farm Bureau is asserting.
Farm Bureau is in the process of gathering information for a formal
complaint to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Buffalo, asking for an
investigation into the circumstances of the stop of four migrant farm
workers on Route 414 in front of Barbara Jean’s Furniture Store Aug. 17.
Also, U.S. Sen. Kristen Gillibrand was made aware of the incident last
week and indicated she will write a letter to Department of Homeland
Security Secretary Janet Napalitano regarding border patrol activity in
Wayne County.
