As I See It: Compassionate Release and Clemency Don't Bring Back Loved Ones
Louise Hoffman Broach | Wayuga Editor Wednesday, August 26 2009
Nothing I can think of can cut so deep and hard in someone’s life than
the loss of a child, and that loss is compounded when that child is
murdered. It’s something that almost can’t be imagined, how does one
survive to get over it?
But somehow, people do. What helps might be that knowing the person
responsible for such a heinous crime was held accountable and will
never see the light of day again as a free person.
Or, will they?

9/11 Remembered
Wednesday, August 26 2009
To the Editor:
Following the tragedies of Sept. 11, 2001, Wolcott’s Joanne and Steve
Galvin created and designed the 9/11 National Remembrance Flag to honor
the victims of that terrible day. The flag and Joanne and Steve’s
efforts have received national attention and appreciation.
Steve passed away in 2005, but Joanne carries on their legacy. She has
donated numerous flags to veterans’ organizations and continues to
participate in memorial activities. Every year she is invited to take
part in services in Shanksville, PA, the site where the courageous
passengers of United Flight 93 took over the controls and prevented the
plane from crashing into downtown Washington. Last year Joanne was an
honored guest at the dedication of the 9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon,
in Washington, DC.

Proud of All Who Helped

To the Editor: On January 1, 2007, I officially became the Sheriff of Cayuga County. For the past 2 ½ years, I have had the privilege of getting to know the outstanding citizens of this county, many who have chosen to serve in our local fire departments. Everyday these men and women selflessly devote their time and skill to assist those in need. With the recent drownings that occurred on Owasco and Cayuga Lakes, it became apparent just how dedicated and special the emergency personnel of this County are. For many days and lengthy hours, these individuals from all over Cayuga County availed themselves to search for these two victims. Many went above and beyond their call of duty by taking time off their usual jobs to make themselves available for the searches for these two gentlemen whom our emergency personnel did not even know.
