Amelia E. (Burns) Hammond

NEWARK – Amelia E. (Burns) Hammond, 94, died on July 17, 2007 at the Wayne County Nursing Home.
Friends were invited to call on July 19 at the Schulz Pusateri Funeral Home in Newark, where services were held the following day with the Rev. Roger Smith. Burial was in the East Newark Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Newark, or to the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons.
Amelia was born in Hermitage on July 26, 1912, the daughter of Charles and Mary Potter Eddy. Amelia and her late husband, EK Burns, operated the Newark Diner for 32 years. For two years, she operated the Paris Shop in Newark with Ruth Kaupp. She was a 70-year member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark and a member of its Women’s Club. She was a 31-year member of the Newark Ladies Auxiliary of the Newark Fire Department. She was a 55-year member of the New-Mar Pinnoccle Club. She was an avid baseball fan and raise chinchillas.
Amelia is survived by: three daughters, Janice Ammen of Sarasota, Fla., Dolores (John) Salerno of North Rose, and Karen (Raymond) Peszko of Gaston, NC; 12 grandchildren, Debra, Michael, Kathleen, Julie, John, Tracey, Todd, Jeff, Nathan, Justin, Steffan, Pam; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Annabelle Eddy; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by: her husbands, EK Burns in 1968 and James Hammond in 1993; and son, David, in 2003.
