Reliant Announces College Scholarship Winners

SODUS – Seven individuals were recently chosen to receive Reliant Community Credit Union’s 2007 Donald K. Rhine College Scholarship in recognition of their efforts to help others. Instituted in honor of the founder of the credit union, the scholarship program is open to all Reliant members who will attend an accredited two- or four-year college full-time in the coming school year and who demonstrate the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” Each recipient is awarded $1,500 to be used toward college expenses.
The following students were recently recognized at Reliant’s annual meeting held at their corporate office in Sodus:
Margaret Burgess of Newark will be a sophomore at Ithaca College this fall majoring in speech pathology, and receives the Donald K. Rhine College Scholarship for the second year in a row. In addition to her studies, Maggie volunteers her time once a week to read and visit
with the elderly.
Matthew Burnham of Newark will be a junior this fall at the University of Virginia studying systems engineering, with plans to begin a career in public service. Last June, Matthew participated in Bike and Build, an organization that coordinates cross-country bicycle trips to raise money and awareness for affordable housing and on their trip they stop to help build new homes.
Meghan DeWitt graduated from Newark High School this year and plans to attend Renssealaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall majoring in biomedical engineering. Meghan was presented in 2006 with The Diocese of Rochester Hands of Christ Award.
Kelly Kolyer graduated from Williamson High School this year and will attend Philadelphia Biblical University majoring in secondary education. Kelly was a multi-year participant in the American Legion Oratorical Competition, placing fourth at the state level on two occasions.
